Things can seem to be going for the worse,
I feel like life is less a gift and more a curse,
But then I close my eyes and think for a while,
I remember the little things that make me smile...

Seeing the rain fall while the sun's still shining,
Normally separate, the two at that time entwining,
A sunset in the horizon at the end of the day,
The painting in the sky I wish would always stay,
Relaxing on a cloudy day with a breeze in the air,
The wind taking my worries leaving me without a care.

Hearing from someone that I figured forgot about me,
Being remembered always fills my heart with such glee,
My friends that believed in me when I had no will to,
Their kind words and support showed me what to do,
'Carebear', 'Silly Buns', and other nicknames that I've had,
They've brought a smile, whether I was happy or mad.

The smile you gave to me that day, us hand in hand...
That was the closest I felt to heaven while being on land,
Hearing you whispering those three words in my ear,
'I love you', the one thing from you that I wanted to hear,
Having someone that actually cared whether I lived or died,
That feeling, I believe, I could never forget, even if had tried.

It's the little things in nature that place me in a peaceful state,
It's the little things from friends that give me kindness, not hate,
It's the little things while in love that made my life feel so great.

It's surprising how things so small can make life so wonderful.

My first writing in many months! I've been meaning to write this poem for quite a while, but I couldn't figure out whether to talk about how little things make life good or how they can destroy things, truthfully, I'm surprised I could make this for the better. This would definitely be the first happy poem I've done in at least...I'd have to see a year and a half. So hopefully enjoy, comments are always appreciated. Especially about the way I ended it, a little different for me.

How things look different on the way down
Disillusioned, I've lost desire
Will I burn in the unforgiving fire?

And you know, when I'm gone
You'll hear my cries on the wind"

Hate the government? Don’t pay federal taxes or join the military. They’re nothing without them.

Thanks for your nice comment, I'm glad it made you smile. Yeah, little things really can matter if we take the time to look at them.

Thanks for commenting and liking my poem here. Yeah, it's happier than the majority of my other works.

Thanks for your long comment. :D I love reading long comments, they're always fun to look at. :) I'm really glad you liked my poem here and like my works period. This one took about an hour and 45 minutes to write, I had to think of all the happy things in life, which normally is pretty hard for me, usually I don't write happy poetry, as you've seen from my other poems. But I'm pretty happy with how this one came out, I'm actually surprised I could finish it to be honest. Last time I tried a happy poem, I just couldn't finish it. :D Thanks again for your comments.

Thanks, yeah, it took a while, but at least I still got it. What do you think of it though? I know it's a lot different than my normal works, and I always appreciated your critiques since you are more the writer than me.

This is wonderful Steven! Yaaay!
It amazes me how people can see the good even among the bad times in life, you're really good at that...I still have a hard time looking back at my happiest times and remembering them as such, since they aren't around anymore. But in the end, that's what all of us have to do - appreciate the good that was there while it lasted.
This is a lovely reminder. And good to see you working again ^_^
